U.S. Prepares Major Operations Against Venezuela Amid Tensions
URGENT UPDATE: The Trump administration is reportedly gearing up for a significant escalation in operations against Venezuela, marking a critical shift in its strategy against President Nicolas Maduro. Sources confirm that covert operations could be the initial steps in this renewed effort, signaling a dangerous increase in tensions that are unfolding right now.
Four U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed to Reuters that the potential overthrow of Maduro is among the options being considered. The exact timing and scope of these operations remain uncertain, and it is unclear whether President Donald Trump has made a final decision.
As part of this developing situation, the U.S. military has deployed additional forces to the Caribbean, heightening fears of conflict. The U.S. Navy’s largest aircraft carrier, the Gerald R. Ford, has recently arrived in the region, joining other military assets. This deployment raises alarms about the potential for a military confrontation with Venezuela.
In a significant move, the U.S. is set to designate the Cartel de los Soles as a foreign terrorist organization on Monday, accusing Maduro of leading this criminal network. Maduro vehemently denies these allegations, claiming that Trump is attempting to orchestrate a coup against him.
The ramifications of intensified U.S. pressure on Maduro could lead to prolonged chaos in Venezuela, a nation already struggling with economic collapse. During Trump’s first term, U.S. officials conducted war games that projected a grim aftermath in the event of Maduro’s fall, warning of violence as various factions compete for power. Security consultant Douglas Farah expressed grave concerns, stating, “Venezuela could face chaos for a sustained period of time with no possibility of ending it.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is demanding a classified briefing from Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding these escalating military operations. Schumer emphasized the need for congressional consultation, stating, “The last thing Americans want right now is another endless war.”
Former national security adviser John Bolton characterized Trump’s approach as a strategy that has “put the gun on the table” in negotiations with Maduro, highlighting the increased military pressure while suggesting the possibility of talks. Bolton also noted that drug smugglers would adapt to U.S. actions, ensuring that cartels continue to seek new routes for narcotics.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are on Washington and Caracas. The potential for a significant military operation against Venezuela brings immediate relevance to U.S. national security and regional stability in Latin America. Stay tuned for updates as this story develops.
