UConn’s Joe Fagnano Shines with 4 TDs in 38-25 Victory
UPDATE: UConn football has achieved a stunning victory, defeating Boston College 38-25 in Chestnut Hill on Saturday, thanks to an extraordinary performance by quarterback Joe Fagnano. This marks UConn’s first power conference road win since 2012.
Fagnano showcased his exceptional skills, completing 23 of 31 passes for 362 yards and four touchdowns, including a remarkable 50-yarder to tight end Juice Vereen. With this win, UConn improves to 5-2 this season, positioning themselves just one victory away from bowl eligibility.
“He did a great job,” said Boston College coach Bill O’Brien. “He was very calm, he knows where to go with the ball.” Fagnano’s composure has been pivotal to the Huskies’ success, demonstrating a level of maturity that sets him apart from many of his peers.
In his seventh year of college football, Fagnano is proving to be a force on the field, having thrown for a staggering 1,918 yards this season without a single interception. His efficiency rating stands at 161.3, making him the only quarterback in the nation to amass such impressive stats without a turnover.
“Joe’s playing at a high level right now,” stated UConn coach Jim Mora. “It’s the work he does and the confidence he has that makes the difference.” Fagnano’s ability to maintain his calm and execute under pressure has been crucial as UConn averages 37 points per game, ranking 21st nationally.
Despite his unassuming stature at 6-foot-4 and 225 lbs, Fagnano’s stats reflect a player who consistently avoids mistakes. Over the last two games, he has thrown for 717 yards and eight touchdowns, while maintaining a clean slate with zero interceptions.
As the Huskies look ahead, they face Duke at Rentschler Field on November 8, where they could see significant fan turnout. With their current trajectory, UConn has the potential to secure a spot in a higher-profile bowl game.
Fagnano’s journey from a four-year stint at Maine to leading UConn’s offense has been remarkable. His maturity and experience are evident as he embraces the leadership role, guiding his teammates with a next-play mentality. “Bad things are going to happen,” Fagnano remarked. “It’s about moving on to the next play.”
With excitement building around the UConn football program, Fagnano’s extraordinary performance proves that he is far from an ordinary player. His leadership and ability to perform under pressure make him a standout athlete, as both coaches acknowledge his potential for a future in professional football.
As fans and analysts look forward to the remainder of the season, all eyes will be on Fagnano and the Huskies as they aim to continue their winning streak and chase bowl eligibility.
