Suzanne R. Rubincam, a beloved resident of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away on September 28, 2025, in Redondo Beach, California, at the age of 84. Known for her vibrant spirit and dedication to music, she touched the lives of countless children and family members throughout her life.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Suzanne was raised in Evanston, Illinois. She attended Northwestern University, where she met her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr.. Their love story began when Paul crashed her Debutante Ball, charming her with his charisma. The couple married and soon moved to California, eventually settling in the Lunada Bay neighborhood, where they resided for over 55 years.
A Life Dedicated to Music and Family
Throughout her career, Suzanne, affectionately known as Sue, Susie, and Ladybug Mom, dedicated herself to teaching music at Rolling Hills Country Day School. She created elaborate plays that showcased her students’ talents, fostering a love for music in many children. Her efforts brought joy and inspiration to her students, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
Outside the classroom, Suzanne enjoyed spending her summers with friends at the Portuguese Bend Club, where they gathered for relaxing beach days. She also cherished cooler days, devoting her time to needlepointing intricate works of art, which she lovingly gifted to family and friends. Her passion for music extended to playing the piano and caring for her roses, which flourished under her attentive care.
As a mother, Suzanne was devoted to her children, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam and Amy Rubincam Steadman. She took great joy in her role as “Grammy” to her three granddaughters: Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman. Family and friends remember her as a warm and loving presence. Alongside Paul, she formed an inseparable partnership, and together they were known for being among the best dancers at any event.
Legacy and Remembrance
Suzanne’s vibrant personality and infectious smile lit up every room. Her signature lemon meringue pie was a cherished favorite among those who knew her.
