JoJo Siwa Hospitalized for Pain from Burst Ovarian Cyst
JoJo Siwa experienced a health scare on November 28, 2023, when she was hospitalized due to severe pain caused by a burst ovarian cyst. The incident occurred just hours before her scheduled performance at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, prompting concern among her fans.
In a TikTok update, Siwa, 22, explained that she had been suffering from intense stomach pain for several days. “Every time that I’ve been dancing or even just walking, my stomach would just really, really hurt,” she shared. Initially attributing the discomfort to menstrual cramps, Siwa’s condition worsened, leading her to seek medical attention.
The pain escalated significantly before her performance, leaving Siwa feeling desperate. “I tried to take a nap, but the pain only got worse,” she recalled. Siwa attempted to alleviate her discomfort by sitting in her hotel bathtub, but this only intensified her pain. She described the experience, stating, “I knew I was gonna black out and felt like I was gonna throw up.”
Realizing the severity of her situation, Siwa informed her mother, dance instructor Jessalynn Siwa, and they decided to call for help. Emergency medical responders arrived but initially struggled to determine the cause of her pain, as her vital signs appeared normal. Eventually, medical professionals at a local hospital diagnosed a ruptured cyst on one of Siwa’s ovaries, which was causing internal bleeding and significant discomfort.
“That’s what was causing the excruciating pain,” Siwa explained to her followers. “Anytime the blood in your stomach moves, that’s the bleeding in the stomach.” Fortunately, doctors assured her that the condition would likely resolve on its own.
Siwa expressed gratitude towards the medical staff for their swift care, stating they discharged her within two hours, allowing her to perform her festive single “Message to the World” later that evening. “We’re going to keep it pushing,” she stated, though she acknowledged her apprehension about how the performance might affect her health. “If I vomit or if I have that excruciating pain burst again, I’ve got to go immediately back in.”
Despite the ordeal, Siwa reassured fans that she was “doing all right” but still not feeling “100 percent.” She also mentioned plans to follow up on the cyst in the coming week.
This health issue comes shortly after a significant moment in Siwa’s personal life, as she and her boyfriend, Chris Hughes, made their red carpet debut at the Dancers Against Cancer Gala in Beverly Hills on October 21, 2023. Hughes, who presented Siwa with a Humanitarian Award at the event, expressed his admiration for her philanthropic efforts.
The couple, who began as friends during their time on Celebrity Big Brother U.K., have been open about their growing relationship, with Siwa describing it as a “beautiful connection.” As she recovers, fans remain supportive, hoping for her swift return to full health and continued success on stage.
