Former Oregon defensive lineman Haloti Ngata has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, marking a significant milestone in his athletic career. Ngata’s formal induction took place on December 5, 2023, during the National Football Foundation’s (NFF) annual awards dinner held in Las Vegas.

This honor highlights Ngata’s impact on college football, making him the seventh player from the Oregon Ducks to receive this recognition. Other notable inductees include quarterback Norm Van Brocklin (Class of 1966), running backs John Kitzmiller (1969), Mel Renfro (1986), Ahmad Rashad (2007), and LaMichael James (2023), alongside coaches Len Casanova (1977) and Mike Bellotti (2014).

During the ceremony, Rob Mullens, the athletic director at the University of Oregon, was also honored with the 2025 NFF John L. Toner Award. This award recognizes individuals for their dedication and superior administrative abilities in college athletics.

In his speech, Ngata expressed gratitude to his former coaches and teammates, highlighting their role in his personal growth. He stated, “Going to Eugene was the perfect place for me to go, being away from family and a place for me to grow up as a man. Real close teammates of mine, you grow with them and you become a man with them. You grow a lot in college, and they become the family for the rest of your life.”

Ngata played for the Oregon Ducks from 2002 to 2005, where he made a remarkable impact on the field. Over the course of 35 career games, he recorded 151 tackles, including 24.5 tackles for loss, and achieved 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, and seven blocked kicks. His impressive performance earned him several accolades, including being named a freshman All-American in 2002 and receiving all-Pac-10 honors in 2004. In 2005, he was a consensus first team All-American and a finalist for both the Outland Trophy and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, boasting a career-high 61 tackles, nine for loss, alongside three sacks and two blocked kicks.

Ngata, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, was the first player from the University of Oregon to be named conference defensive player of the year in 2005. Following his successful college career, he was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens as the 12th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He played 13 seasons in the NFL, winning Super Bowl XLVII with the Ravens, and also had stints with the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles. During his professional career, Ngata was selected to the Pro Bowl five times and earned first team All-Pro honors twice, along with three second team All-Pro selections.

Ngata’s induction into the College Football Hall of Fame not only celebrates his individual achievements but also honors his contributions to the Oregon Ducks and college football as a whole. His legacy continues to inspire future generations of athletes.
