UPDATE: A powerful cold front swept through North Texas, bringing frigid temperatures and biting wind chills as low as the upper teens. Early morning temperatures plummeted below freezing in several areas, including a chilling 29 degrees at Possum Kingdom Lake and 34 degrees in Dallas.

Residents are feeling the impact of strong winds, which have pushed the wind chill factor down into the 20s. As the system moves eastward, clouds will persist throughout the day, causing significant travel disruptions in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, where rain is shifting to sleet and snow.

Current forecasts indicate that most of North Texas will avoid major weather issues heading into the weekend. A southwest flow aloft is expected to maintain cloud cover with isolated showers possible on Monday. Fortunately, temperatures should remain above freezing, preventing any risk of wintry precipitation.

Looking ahead, a gradual warm-up is anticipated, with highs returning to the 50s on Tuesday and nearing 60 degrees by Wednesday. Residents can expect a break from the cold as conditions stabilize.

The forecast warns, however, that another potent system is expected to arrive by Thursday, bringing a higher likelihood of widespread rain and thunderstorms. Following this system, conditions will dry out by Friday.

For now, North Texans are advised to bundle up and prepare for the cold as the overall trend suggests more chilly days ahead. The upcoming weekend promises calmer weather and near-normal temperatures, offering a welcome reprieve from the recent chill.

Stay tuned for updates as weather patterns develop and impact travel and daily life across the region.
