South Euclid Driver Arrested for DUI After Hit-and-Run Crash
BREAKING: A 47-year-old South Euclid man was arrested for driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of a crash late Sunday night, December 3, 2023. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 PM on Mayfield Road, just outside the Walgreens store.
According to local police in Lyndhurst, the driver of a GMC Acadia reported that the other vehicle, a white Toyota, had struck him before the driver fled the scene. Officers quickly located the suspect’s vehicle on Richmond Road near CVS/Pharmacy and arrested the driver after confirming he was intoxicated. He refused to take a breathalyzer test, escalating the severity of charges against him.
In a separate incident, police responded to a theft report at L.L. Bean on Cedar Road on December 6 at 4:40 PM. Loss prevention identified a 65-year-old Cleveland man as the suspect in a theft totaling $1,020 that occurred on November 29. Authorities are still investigating, and no charges have yet been filed.
Meanwhile, on December 1 at 2:20 PM, a representative from The Makeup Institute on Mayfield Road reported fraudulent checks written against the business account. Two checks totaling $931.64 were involved, and police are actively investigating the matter.
A concerning psychiatric situation unfolded on December 2 when a woman called the emergency services at 11:45 AM. During a call that was unintentionally shared with Lyndhurst dispatch, the woman was heard pleading with her husband to put down a firearm. Police arrived and took the 51-year-old man to MetroHealth Hospital for evaluation, preventing a potentially tragic situation.
Additionally, on December 4 at 10:55 AM, officers responded to a disturbance on Kenton Circle. A 56-year-old woman reported her husband was intoxicated and out of control as he was scheduled to enter rehabilitation. The man declined police assistance but assured his wife he would calm down.
Lastly, on December 5 at 5:40 PM, police apprehended three juveniles who attempted to steal merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods on Cedar Road. After a brief pursuit, officers confirmed no theft occurred, and the boys, aged 14 and 16, were released to their parents without charges.
