The future of Prince Andrew is set to take another significant turn as King Charles III plans to revoke his final honorary military position. This decision was confirmed by Britain’s Defense Secretary, John Healey, during an interview on Sunday. The former Duke of York, who was appointed vice admiral in the Royal Navy in 2015, will likely lose this title as part of ongoing measures following his removal from other military roles due to controversies surrounding his past.

In his remarks to Sky News, Healey stated, “We’ve seen Andrew surrender the military positions that he’s had, and we’re looking now at the one remaining position he has, which is the honorary vice admiral position.” He further noted that there is a process underway to remove the honorary rank, indicating that King Charles has expressed a desire for this action. Healey later elaborated in an interview with the BBC that the King believes this step is appropriate and necessary.

Andrew’s military career spanned 22 years, during which he served as a helicopter pilot in the Falklands War and commanded a mine countermeasures vessel. Despite these contributions, the 63-year-old faces a future without royal titles after a series of scandals. Following discussions with the royal family, he has already lost his title as the Duke of York and will be referred to simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, losing the designation of “Prince.”

The removal of his titles follows a civil case of sexual abuse brought against him in the United States by Virginia Giuffre, who claims she was trafficked by the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. Giuffre alleged that she had sexual encounters with Andrew when she was a teenager, a claim he has consistently denied. The fallout from these allegations forced Andrew to step back from royal duties and relinquish the title of His Royal Highness.

Alongside these losses, Andrew is also expected to vacate the 30-room property known as Royal Lodge within the next three months. He shares this residence with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who is also facing eviction.

As a once-prominent member of the royal family, Andrew’s transition into private life marks a dramatic shift in his public persona. The latest developments reflect ongoing efforts by the monarchy to distance itself from controversies that have plagued the family in recent years. The resolution regarding his honorary military rank is part of a broader strategy to restore the monarchy’s image in the wake of various scandals.
