Community Mourns the Loss of Harold Meredith Klonecky at 98

Harold Meredith Klonecky, a beloved educator and community leader, passed away in Torrance, California, on November 16, 2025, at the age of 98. A lifelong advocate for education, Klonecky dedicated his career to teaching and inspiring students, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.

Born on May 22, 1927, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Irma and Constant Klonecky, Harold earned his Bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State University. He began his professional journey as a teacher of English and Drama, showcasing his passion for literature and the arts. In 1955, he relocated to Torrance, California, where he continued his teaching career at North High School.

Over the years, Dr. Klonecky advanced his education, obtaining a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California. His commitment to education culminated in a 25-year tenure at Torrance High School, where he served first as Assistant Principal and later as Principal, retiring in 1987. Throughout his career, he was admired for his dedication, kindness, and ability to connect with students, faculty, and parents.

Even in his later years, Dr. Klonecky remained actively engaged with the Torrance High School community. He participated in events with school retirees and maintained an active lifestyle, enjoying golf and immersing himself in mystery novels. His charisma also shone on the dance floor, where he was a sought-after partner at various social gatherings. Friends and family often described him as patient and compassionate, both towards animals and people.

Dr. Klonecky is survived by his relatives, including Theresa and Jeff Heiney, their son Erick, and Jen and Patrick Sullivan, along with their children Kieran, Aidan, Declan, and Bridget. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Klonecky.

A celebration of Dr. Klonecky’s life will take place on December 15, 2025, with a Visitation and Rosary from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Coastal Funeral Center, located at 25001 Narbonne Ave, Lomita, California. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for December 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 25511 Eshelman Ave, Lomita. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at Hof’s Hut at 11:30 AM, located at 23635 Crenshaw Blvd in Torrance.

As the community reflects on the life and legacy of Harold Meredith Klonecky, his contributions to education and the warmth he shared with those around him will be fondly remembered.
