Texas Rangers Sign Three Players to Boost 2026 Roster
BREAKING: The Texas Rangers have just announced significant roster changes, agreeing to terms with three free agents to strengthen their lineup and pitching staff for the upcoming 2026 season. The deals, confirmed by sources to ESPN, include catcher Danny Jansen, left-hander Tyler Alexander, and right-handed reliever Alexis Díaz, all on one-year contracts.
The Rangers have been actively searching for a new starting catcher after non-tendering Jonah Heim. Jansen, who signed a two-year, $14.5 million contract, is expected to add much-needed power to the lineup, complementing the recent acquisition of Brandon Nimmo. Jansen, a veteran with a strong track record, finished the previous season with the Milwaukee Brewers, showcasing a .254 batting average and 14 home runs.
As the Rangers aim to rebound from a disappointing .500 finish last season, new manager Skip Schumaker is focused on rebuilding the team’s performance. The Rangers missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year after winning the World Series in 2023. They are looking to improve their pitching depth after boasting the best team ERA in the league at 3.49 last season.
Alexander is a versatile left-handed pitcher who brings valuable experience, having appeared in 52 games last year for the Brewers and White Sox. He can take on multiple roles, providing stability to the rotation as both a starter and a reliever. Meanwhile, Díaz, who previously served as a closer, aims to bounce back from a challenging season where he recorded an 8.15 ERA with the Cincinnati Reds and other teams.
The Rangers are also facing challenges in their pitching department, with key players such as Merrill Kelly and Tyler Mahle departing in free agency. They will rely on returning frontline starters like Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi, while also integrating younger pitchers like Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker into their rotation.
The urgency to improve is palpable as Texas fans eagerly await the team’s performance in the upcoming season. The Rangers are committed to making strategic moves that will enhance their chances of returning to postseason play.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Rangers continue to finalize their roster ahead of the 2026 season.
