Poppin Hyun Joon Resigns Following Allegations of Abuse at BAU
Nam Hyun Joon, widely known as Poppin Hyun Joon, has admitted to being “Professor A” in a controversial post that surfaced on social media, revealing allegations of verbal abuse and sexual humiliation towards students. The accusations emerged on December 12, 2025, when a student from the Division of Practical Dance at Baekseok Arts University (BAU) detailed troubling incidents that occurred during a Production Practicum class.
The student’s post, shared on Instagram by user @koala.2758181, outlined a series of distressing experiences, including frequent use of profanity and inappropriate comments made by the professor. The post aimed to raise awareness among fellow students and the university administration about the atmosphere in the class, which the student described as hostile and intimidating.
In the lengthy social media account, the student recounted instances where the professor allegedly used derogatory language, such as “f*ck,” “dumba*s,” and “b*stard,” during lectures. They expressed that this kind of language created an uncomfortable learning environment, filled with shame and embarrassment for those present, particularly minors.
The student also highlighted a specific incident where Professor A dismissed student objections with a vulgar remark: “If you dance like that, all you’re doing is jerking off while looking at yourselves in the mirror.” Such comments were perceived as wholly inappropriate for an educator, especially in a setting aimed at nurturing creativity and confidence.
In response to the growing outrage, Poppin Hyun Joon issued a public apology through an Instagram update, acknowledging his identity as “Professor A.” He expressed regret for his actions and announced his resignation from his role at BAU, effective immediately.
“I sincerely apologize to the students,” he wrote. “As an educator, I created a harsh atmosphere through inappropriate words and actions, and I deeply reflect on the fact that, regardless of my intentions, my behavior caused students to feel sexually humiliated.”
The former dancer emphasized that there was never any improper intent behind his actions. Despite this, he recognized the impact they had on his students and took responsibility for creating a negative environment.
Poppin Hyun Joon is a notable figure in the K-Pop industry, having gained fame as a member of the original co-ed group Young Turks Club, which debuted in 1996. His transition to academia began in August 2022 when he was appointed as a professor at BAU, a position he held until his resignation.
The unfolding controversy has sparked discussions about the responsibilities of educators and the importance of maintaining a safe and supportive environment for students. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how BAU will address the allegations and what measures will be taken to ensure the protection of its students in the future.
