Ubicept Unveils Toolkit to Enhance Modern Vision Systems

Ubicept, a startup specializing in computer vision technology, has launched its new Ubicept Toolkit, aimed at enhancing imaging capabilities across various modern vision systems. The toolkit enables users to leverage physics-based imaging techniques, providing improved data quality for both new and existing hardware setups. This advancement is particularly significant for systems utilizing single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensors and standard CMOS cameras.

According to Sebastian Bauer, CEO of Ubicept, the technology represents a transformative step in how machines interpret visual information. “Ubicept’s technology revolutionizes how machines see the world by unlocking the full potential of today’s and tomorrow’s image sensors,” he stated. The toolkit promises to enhance image reliability, especially under challenging conditions, outperforming traditional AI-based video enhancement methods.

Expanding Access to Advanced Imaging Technology

The toolkit is designed to work with a variety of commonly available CMOS cameras that output raw uncompressed data. This feature allows perception developers to achieve immediate quality improvements without needing to overhaul their existing systems. Tristan Swedish, CTO of Ubicept, emphasized the need for advanced understanding in autonomous systems, stating, “Our mission is to turn raw photon data into outputs that are specifically designed for computer vision, not human consumption.”

As the market for SPAD sensors grows, projected to reach $2.55 billion by 2029 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.1 percent, Ubicept’s offerings are timely. The broader CMOS sensor market is also on the rise, expected to hit $30 billion by the same year, albeit at a slower growth rate of 7.5 percent CAGR. The demand for improved imaging solutions across sectors such as robotics, automotive, and industrial sensing is driving this expansion.

Collaboration with Industry Leaders

Ubicept’s technology builds on the capabilities of the SPAD Alpha camera developed by Pi Imaging Technology. This next-generation camera delivers exceptional performance with zero read noise, rapid exposure control, and frame rates reaching 73,000 fps. These features make it ideal for scientific research and high-demand applications, providing unmatched temporal precision and light sensitivity.

Michel Antolović, CEO of Pi Imaging Technology, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Ubicept shares our deep commitment to advancing perception technology. Together, we enable perception engineers to maximize the benefits of single-photon imaging.” The synergy between Ubicept’s real-time processing capabilities and Pi Imaging’s advanced hardware is poised to deliver significant advancements in the field.

The Ubicept Toolkit includes the Ubicept Photon Fusion algorithm, facilitating efficient video data processing, along with the FLARE firmware for optimized photon capture.
