Longtime Evansville Resident Jerry Dean Smith Passes at Age 82
Jerry Dean Smith, an esteemed resident of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 82. Surrounded by his loving family, Jerry’s life is remembered for his dedication to work, community, and family.
Born on October 29, 1943, in Greenville, Kentucky, Jerry was the son of Henry Dee Smith and Ethel E. (Watkins) Smith. He graduated from Hughes-Kirk High School in 1961, marking the beginning of a robust career. Jerry dedicated 19 years to the Amax Ashire Coal Company and spent another 12 years with Whirlpool. He later worked for Evansville Garage Doors before retiring in 2003.
Community and Family Life
A devoted member of the Washington Avenue Church of Christ, Jerry was known for his strong faith and community involvement. In addition to his work ethic, he cherished his leisure time, enjoying activities like golfing, fishing, bowling, and photography. His travels, particularly to Hawaii, held a special place in his heart, offering him joyful experiences with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Kay (Agee) Smith, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years. Jerry’s family includes his son Kevin Smith (spouse Karen), daughter-in-law Jo Lisa Smith, and grandchildren Katie Reuscher (spouse Josh), Andrew Smith (spouse Mandy), Devon Smith (spouse Lauren), Amanda James (spouse Robert), and James Smith. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Elijah, Preston, Adleigh, Duncan, Ryker, Zaleigh, Everleigh, Kenzie, and Levi.
Funeral Arrangements
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jerry Dale Smith, one brother, and three sisters. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 19, 2026, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel located at 5330 Washington Avenue, with Alan Bush officiating. Burial will follow at the Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville, Indiana.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel on March 18, 2026, from 15:00 to 19:00, and again on March 19 from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins.
