On March 14, 2024, the streets of Downtown Brainerd came alive as residents and visitors celebrated the 26th annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Despite overcast skies and temperatures hovering in the upper 20s, the festive atmosphere drew a large crowd eager to partake in the vibrant community tradition.

Community Spirit on Display

Attendees lined the streets, dressed warmly in anticipation of snow forecasted for later in the day. Many took advantage of the local businesses, shopping downtown and enjoying food from vendors such as the Caribbean Fusion food truck. Inside the Knotty Pine Bakery and the Main Street Market, customers found a cozy vantage point to watch the parade unfold.

Children, adorned in green attire, eagerly awaited the candy thrown by parade participants as the route meandered through the heart of the community. The parade featured a colorful display of floats, vehicles, dignitaries, fire trucks, and police cars, all adorned in St. Patrick’s Day themes. Inflatable dinosaurs added an element of whimsy, delighting young spectators.

Notable Participants and Festive Atmosphere

Brainerd City Council member Kevin Yeager served as the grand marshal, making a striking appearance in a kilt and top hat, complete with a walking stick. Yeager was not alone in sporting a kilt; at least one other paradegoer joined in the festive spirit. Meanwhile, Baxter Mayor Darrel Olson waved to the crowd from the back of a pickup truck, dressed in a large green and white scarf, a green hat, and matching gloves.

The parade showcased the community’s enthusiasm and camaraderie, with participants of all ages getting into the spirit of the celebration. As the parade progressed, the streets were filled with laughter, cheers, and the unmistakable charm of St. Patrick’s Day, reinforcing the importance of local traditions in bringing people together.

As the day continued, the festivities not only highlighted the cultural significance of St. Patrick’s Day but also underscored the strong community bonds within Brainerd and Baxter, making the event a cherished annual highlight.
