Texas A&M Faces Key Player Absences Ahead of Texas Showdown
No. 3 Texas A&M will be without four players as they prepare to face No. 16 Texas in Austin on Friday night. The matchup, part of the Lone Star Showdown, will see Texas A&M (11-0, 7-0 SEC) aiming for a victory that will secure their spot in the SEC Championship Game. Meanwhile, Texas (8-3, 5-2 SEC) is looking to bolster their postseason hopes with a win, as a 9-3 record would keep them in contention for the College Football Playoff.
The Aggies will notably miss senior running back Le’Veon Moss, who has been sidelined for five consecutive games due to an ankle injury. Despite the potential for his return, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko confirmed in the final injury report that Moss, alongside senior linebacker Scooby Williams, senior safety Bryce Anderson, and freshman safety Rashad Johnson Jr., will not be participating in the game against the Longhorns.
Texas A&M’s lineup will see some positive developments, as wide receiver Mario Craver and running back Rueben Owens are healthy and set to return to the starting lineup. In contrast, Texas will experience its own challenges, with sophomore linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith missing the first half of the game due to a targeting penalty incurred during Texas’s recent 52-37 victory over Arkansas. Junior linebacker Anthony Hill remains a question mark for the game but is expected to play based on recent injury updates.
As the teams prepare for this highly anticipated encounter, Texas A&M’s strong season has positioned them for a chance at the College Football Playoff, regardless of the outcome on Friday. For Texas, a victory could reinvigorate their hopes for postseason play. The Lone Star Showdown promises to be an intense battle, with both teams bringing significant stakes into the matchup.
