Colorado Buffaloes Defensive Linemen Show Improvement Ahead of Kansas State Game
The Colorado Buffaloes have received promising news concerning the availability of two defensive linemen ahead of their regular season finale against the Kansas State Wildcats on December 2, 2023. According to the team’s Thursday injury report, defensive tackle Amari McNeill and defensive end Keaten Wade have both been upgraded from doubtful to questionable for the matchup in Manhattan, Kansas.
Wade participated in last weekend’s game against Arizona State, contributing to the team’s efforts, while McNeill has been sidelined for approximately one month due to an undisclosed injury. Another notable update involves wide receiver Omarion Miller, who has moved from questionable to probable, enhancing the Buffaloes’ offensive prospects. Offensive tackle Jordan Seaton remains questionable, adding some uncertainty to the offensive line as the team prepares for the critical contest.
In total, the Buffaloes reported 12 players on their injury list, with safety Carter Stoutmire and defensive tackle Tawfiq Thomas confirmed as out for Saturday’s game. Their absence could significantly impact Colorado’s defensive strategy, especially in a game where every player’s contribution is vital.
Injury Updates and Implications for the Buffaloes
The statuses of Wade, McNeill, and Miller will be closely monitored, with updates expected on Friday evening, as well as 90 minutes before the kickoff at 10 a.m. MT. Colorado’s injury report indicates a mix of hope and concern, particularly for players such as safety Tawfiq Byard, wide receiver Joseph Williams, and offensive linemen Larry Johnson III and Brandon Davis-Swain, all of whom are dealing with injuries sustained in recent games.
The Buffaloes, holding a record of 3-8 and 1-7 in the Big 12, are looking to end the season on a high note. A win against Kansas State could serve as a much-needed morale boost and a chance to play spoiler, denying the Wildcats a pathway to bowl eligibility.
Kansas State’s Injury Report and Game Strategies
For their part, Kansas State reported only five players on their Thursday injury report, though four are listed as out, including cornerback Jayden Rowe and safety Colby McCalister. Tight end Garrett Oakley is marked as questionable and is a player to watch, given his impressive season statistics of 38 receptions for 389 yards and six touchdowns.
Reflecting on the matchup, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders offered his insights on Kansas State, acknowledging their strengths and the challenge they pose. “The team is strong. They ran the heck out of the football last week,” Sanders noted. He recognized their competitive spirit and the significant stakes involved, stating, “They definitely have a bowl riding on, and we’re trying to play spoiler this week.”
As the Buffaloes prepare for their final game of the season, the combination of injury updates and strategic planning will be crucial in determining the outcome against a motivated Kansas State team, which currently holds a record of 5-6 and needs a victory to secure bowl eligibility.
