Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan Laugh on Video Call Post-Clippers Split
Chris Paul, a future Hall of Fame point guard, found solace in laughter with former teammates Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan during a video call, following his unexpected separation from the LA Clippers. The franchise announced on December 3, 2025, that it would part ways with the 40-year-old player, who stands as the all-time leader in assists for the team with 4,076 across 425 regular-season games.
In addition to his assist record, Paul ranks sixth in total points scored with 7,721, ninth in made field goals with 2,718, fifth in three-pointers made with 628, second in steals with 913, and first in win shares with 78.2. His departure from the Clippers has surprised many in the basketball community, particularly given the team’s ongoing challenges this season, which has seen them start with a 5-16 record.
Clippers’ Ongoing Struggles and Paul’s Legacy
The Clippers’ decision to move on from Paul comes at a time when the team is grappling with injuries and inconsistent performances. Clippers basketball president Lawrence Frank stated that the organization would collaborate with Paul as he transitions to the next chapter of his career. Yet, this statement raises eyebrows, especially since Paul had previously announced that this season would be his last in the NBA, and reports indicate that the decision to part ways was not initiated by him.
Paul’s exit continues a troubling trend for the Clippers, who have a history of strained relationships with some of their most talented players. This situation echoes the sudden end to Griffin’s time with the franchise. In July 2017, Griffin signed a long-term contract to remain with the Clippers only to be traded to the Detroit Pistons just six months later. Jordan also faced a similar fate. After a decade with the Clippers, he opted out of his contract in 2018, signing with the Dallas Mavericks, despite initial indecision during his free agency tour in 2015.
Reflection on Lob City Era
From 2011 to 2017, the Clippers enjoyed their most successful era, with a win percentage of .658, tied for the third-best in the NBA alongside the Oklahoma City Thunder. During this time, Paul, Griffin, and Jordan not only earned All-Star and All-NBA honors but also helped establish the Clippers as serious contenders for the first time in their history. Despite their achievements, the team has yet to secure a conference or NBA Finals appearance, leaving a bittersweet legacy.
As Paul navigates this unexpected transition, he finds comfort in the camaraderie shared with Griffin and Jordan, reminding fans of the strong bonds formed during the Lob City era of Clippers basketball. The ongoing saga of the Clippers continues to unfold, and while Paul’s future remains uncertain, moments of levity like the recent video call provide a glimpse into the lasting friendships forged through shared experiences on the court.
