Tim Beck Named Semifinalist for Prestigious Broyles Award

Vanderbilt University’s offensive coordinator, Tim Beck, has been named a semifinalist for the esteemed Broyles Award, which honors the top assistant coach in college football. The announcement was made on Tuesday night, with the Frank and Barbara Broyles Foundation recognizing Beck as one of the 15 semifinalists for the 2023 award.

Under Beck’s leadership, Vanderbilt has developed one of the most effective offenses in the nation. The Commodores currently rank first in the country in offensive efficiency, averaging an impressive 39.4 points per game, placing them eighth overall. Additionally, Vanderbilt leads all teams with an average of 7.54 yards per play and has recorded 111 explosive plays this season.

Beck’s impact is particularly evident in the performance of quarterback Diego Pavia, who has thrived within Beck’s offensive system, contributing significantly to the Commodores’ successful 10-2 season. Pavia’s stellar play has positioned him as a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy, with finalists set to be announced on December 8, 2023, following the conference championship games.

Despite their strong record, Vanderbilt did not secure a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Commodores remained at No. 14 in the latest rankings released by the College Football Playoff committee. This outcome means they will await their bowl game invitation, with possibilities including participation in either the ReliaQuest Bowl on December 31 or the Gator Bowl on December 27.

In recent weeks, Diego Pavia has garnered significant accolades, including the Associated Press Player of the Week and the Manning Award Star of the Week after a standout performance against Tennessee. Pavia made history as the first player in Southeastern Conference (SEC) history to surpass 400 yards in four consecutive games. He also became the first player since Jayden Daniels in 2023 to achieve over 250 passing yards and 150 rushing yards in a single game.
