Federal Judge Orders Immediate Release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia

A federal judge in Maryland has ordered the immediate release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from immigration detention as he continues his legal battle against deportation. The ruling, issued on October 19, 2023, by U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis, mandates that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) must release Abrego Garcia from custody without delay.

Judge Xinis stated in her ruling, “Since Abrego Garcia’s return from wrongful detention in El Salvador, he has been re-detained again without lawful authority. Abrego Garcia is a Salvadoran national who has lived in Maryland for several years and has an American wife and child. He originally immigrated to the United States illegally as a teenager.
