New Grocery Store Street Corner Urban Market Set to Open in Carrollton

A new grocery store, Street Corner Urban Market, will open its first Texas location in Carrollton at 1105 South Broadway St. The store is set to debut in spring 2026, occupying the space previously held by a vintage shop across from the historic downtown square. This expansion marks a significant step for the Kansas-based chain, which operates 47 locations across the United States, including cities like Fresno, California, and Rochester, New York.

The Carrollton store will cover approximately 2,500 square feet, bridging the gap between a convenience store and a larger grocery outlet. Franchisee Leon Smith is a longtime resident of downtown Carrollton, and he aims to address the community’s need for grocery options. Smith noted, “I’ve always noticed the need for some type of grocery chain down here. There’s just nothing down here for the residents — nowhere for them to go grab something quick.”

The historic downtown area offers a diverse range of amenities, including family housing, luxury apartment complexes, a DART station, dining options, parks, and local retail services. However, the absence of a grocery store has been a notable gap in the neighborhood’s offerings. Residents currently lack a convenient place to purchase groceries, beverages, flowers, and ready-to-eat meals without traveling far.

Smith, who works in human resources at Baylor Scott & White, is venturing into the franchising business with this new venture. He describes the shopping experience at Street Corner Urban Market as reminiscent of Trader Joe’s, featuring many of the same vendors but in a more compact format. The store will prioritize catering to the community’s preferences, welcoming product recommendations from residents to tailor its offerings.

“It’s not cookie cutter ‘this is the only way that it’s going to go,’” Smith emphasized. “I’m here to try to make it welcoming for everybody that’s around here. I’m a part of this community, so this is important to me because I know the need for it.”

As the opening date approaches, the community looks forward to the arrival of Street Corner Urban Market, which promises to enhance downtown Carrollton’s retail landscape while providing residents with a much-needed grocery option.
