Powerball Jackpot Reaches $1.6 Billion After Latest Roll Over

An estimated $1.6 billion is up for grabs in the upcoming Powerball draw on Monday, October 9, 2023, following a recent rollover of the jackpot on Saturday. Players have the option to select an annuitized prize valued at $1.6 billion or a lump sum payment of approximately $735.3 million before taxes.

Choosing the annuity option means the winner will receive an initial payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year. This current prize marks the fourth largest jackpot in the history of the Powerball game, according to a news release from Powerball. It is second only to the record jackpot of $1.787 billion won on September 6, 2023.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever recorded was a staggering $2.04 billion in 2022. To claim the jackpot, ticket holders must match all six drawn balls—five white balls and one red Powerball. The draw on Monday will mark the 46th in the current jackpot run, indicating a sustained buildup of interest and excitement among players.

While the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot stand at 1 in 292.2 million, the chances of securing smaller cash prizes remain significantly better. Players can win prizes as low as $4 by matching fewer numbers.
