Ryan Seacrest Remembers Late Father This Christmas Season
Ryan Seacrest is reflecting on the memory of his father, Gary Seacrest, during this holiday season, marking the first Christmas since his passing. On December 25, 2023, the television host shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating, “First Christmas without Dad, but holding him close in all the ways we can. We miss you. Merry Heavenly Christmas.” Accompanied by a family photo, Ryan, 51, donned matching festive pajamas while celebrating with loved ones around the Christmas tree. He also shared images of their holiday meal, showcasing a cozy family gathering.
This Christmas comes just two months after Ryan announced the death of his father, who succumbed to prostate cancer. In a post on Instagram in October, Ryan expressed profound grief, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week.” He conveyed solace in knowing that his father was no longer suffering, stating, “We are heartbroken.” Ryan described Gary as a devoted husband, an incredible grandfather to Flora, and a loving father, promising, “Dad, you will live in our hearts forever. I love you.”
Gary Seacrest leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Connie, along with their two children, Ryan and Meredith, and granddaughter, Flora. Following Gary’s death, Ryan honored his father’s legacy during a broadcast of his show, “On Air With Ryan Seacrest,” on iHeartRadio. He recounted a poignant moment, recalling, “It’s so vivid in my mind, but as he said without much strength or energy that he loved us and that he was going to miss us.” Ryan described the powerful connection they shared during his father’s final moments, emphasizing the importance of family care.
Earlier this year, Ryan had disclosed that Gary had been battling prostate cancer for several years. “My dad is about 80 years old, and I have a very close relationship with my father,” he noted during a July radio show. As his father’s condition deteriorated, Ryan decided to speak publicly about Gary’s health struggles. He recounted receiving an urgent call from his sister informing him that their father was in the ICU due to pneumonia, prompting Ryan to rush to Atlanta to be by his side.
In a reflective moment, Ryan shared the gravity of their conversations regarding Gary’s medical treatment. “The night that I got there, the conversation they were having with him about an emergency surgery was a life-or-death conversation,” he recalled. He expressed the shock of seeing his once-strong father’s vulnerable state, highlighting the emotional burden of making critical healthcare decisions during such a challenging time.
Despite battling pneumonia, Gary managed to continue his cancer treatment. Ryan described the ongoing struggle, stating, “His pneumonia is gone, but his cancer is not, and so we have to go back into another treatment and fight this cancer.” He recognized the universal impact of cancer, stating, “Cancer affects every one of us in some way. And it … then it sucks. The treatments suck.”
This holiday season serves as a significant reminder of family bonds and the enduring memories of loved ones lost. Ryan’s tribute to his father underscores the love and connection that persist, even in the face of profound loss.
