Milwaukee Bucks guard AJ Green is facing challenges as he seeks to regain his rhythm following a shoulder injury that sidelined him earlier this month. Since returning to the game on December 19, 2023, Green’s performance has been inconsistent, with only one standout game where he scored 20 points. The Bucks are counting on him, especially during this crucial part of the season.

Green sustained the injury on December 5 during a match against the Philadelphia 76ers, exiting early after failing to make his first four shots. In the seven games since his return, he has shot just 32.7% overall and 31.3% from beyond the arc. His scoring average has decreased to 7.6 points per game, down from 10.5 points per game for the season. Notably, aside from the 20-point game against Memphis, he has not reached double figures in scoring.

Efficiency Drops and Team Reliance

Green’s recent shooting struggles starkly contrast with his earlier season averages of 45.3% from the field, 44.8% from three-point range, and 80.8% from the free-throw line. In a narrow 114-113 loss to the Washington Wizards, he recorded nine points on 3-of-8 shooting from three-point territory. Despite this, he logged 35 minutes on the court, which is a positive sign as he works to shake off the post-injury rust.

The Bucks’ roster lacks a substitute for Green’s high-volume shooting, which is critical for their offensive strategy. With Taurean Prince out for the season, players like Myles Turner and Kevin Porter Jr. have attempted to step up, but they have not consistently filled the gap. Gary Trent Jr., who was expected to contribute, has struggled this season, failing to score in double figures since mid-December. He currently holds a 3-point shooting percentage of 37.8%, a drop from 41.6% last year.

Offensive Challenges and Future Outlook

The Bucks have faced spacing issues that have hindered their offensive flow, underscoring the need for their shooters to convert open opportunities. The team relies heavily on effective ball movement and a drive-and-kick offense, making Green’s ability to find his shooting form essential for their success.

As the season progresses, the Bucks hope that Green can regain his confidence and shooting efficiency. His ability to consistently hit shots from beyond the arc will be crucial for the team’s playoff aspirations. The organization and fans alike are eager to see the return of the AJ Green they know and rely on, as they navigate the challenges ahead in the competitive landscape of the league.
