Rochester Contestant David Bond Shouts Out Buffalo Bills on ‘Jeopardy!’
Rochester native David Bond made a memorable appearance on the latest episode of “Jeopardy!” aired on October 3, 2023. Although he did not secure a win, Bond ensured to leave his mark by shouting out the Buffalo Bills in his Final Jeopardy answer, declaring, “Go Bills!” before the episode concluded.
The category for the Final Jeopardy clue was Typography, posing the challenge: “Inspired by Port Authority Bus Terminal signage, it was adopted as a font by NYU and the Tribeca Film Festival.” Surprisingly, none of the contestants, including Bond, answered correctly. His response of Arial resulted in a drop to $10,000, placing him in second position.
Bond first gained recognition on “Jeopardy!” in December 2024, competing in three consecutive episodes, winning two before losing in the third. His latest appearance was part of the Champions Wildcard tournament, where he hopes to continue his journey. The announcement regarding the semifinalists will occur during the upcoming episode on October 6, 2023, leaving Bond’s future in the competition uncertain.
David Bond’s Background and Journey
Currently residing in West Henrietta, Bond has deep roots in Rochester, having grown up in the 19th Ward. He graduated from the Aquinas Institute of Rochester in 1980 and later earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Rochester in 1984. He continued his education there, obtaining a master’s degree in public policy analysis in 1992.
From 1984 to 1990, Bond served in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of lieutenant. After his military service, he built a career in research administration, project management, and grant writing. Before retiring in 2020, he held the position of director of sponsored research services at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Nine out of fifteen semifinalists will advance to the next round of the tournament, which is set to air next week. Bond’s performance has raised anticipation about whether his $10,000 will be enough to secure a semifinal spot.
Previous Buffalo Bills Mentions on ‘Jeopardy!’
Bond is not the first contestant to reference the Buffalo Bills during gameplay. In January 2025, contestant Mehal Shah shared a personal story about his daughter’s Buffalo Bills-themed baptism. Shah, originally from Buffalo but now residing in Seattle, highlighted his connection to the team, stating, “Even though I haven’t been back for a little while, Buffalo still runs pretty deep in my veins.”
The unique anecdote added to the rich tapestry of “Jeopardy!” moments that connect contestants to their hometowns and passions. As the competition progresses, fans eagerly await to see if Bond can join Shah in leaving a lasting impression while representing the Buffalo Bills on national television.
As the excitement builds around this week’s episode, Bond’s journey exemplifies the blend of intellect and personal connections that make “Jeopardy!” a beloved staple in American entertainment.
