Marvel Studios Skips Super Bowl LX, Delays Trailers for 2026 Films

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe received disappointing news as it was confirmed that trailers for the highly awaited films, Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will not debut during Super Bowl LX. According to a report from Deadline, this marks the first time Marvel Studios has decided to skip this major event, which traditionally serves as a platform for unveiling new footage from upcoming projects.

The absence of these trailers is particularly surprising considering Marvel’s consistent presence at the Super Bowl in past years. Historically, the studio has leveraged the championship game to create buzz for its films. In contrast, Sony, which is responsible for the Spider-Man franchise, has often opted out of Super Bowl promotions, choosing instead to release trailers through other channels. Nonetheless, there is a possibility that the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be released online around the same timeframe.

As anticipation builds for both films, fans are left to speculate based on rumors and plot leaks. Avengers: Doomsday is set to feature the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and will showcase a roster of heroes, including the Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Notably, Chris Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers, making a return seven years after his last appearance in Avengers: Endgame.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring back Tom Holland as Spider-Man, who will navigate a complex storyline featuring Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk. The narrative will delve into the challenges Spider-Man faces in balancing his personal life and superhero responsibilities, especially after the significant events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where a memory-wipe spell cast by Doctor Strange resulted in the world forgetting his secret identity.

The release dates for these films are set for July 31, 2026, for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, followed by Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026. Before the latter’s premiere, Avengers: Endgame will be re-released in theaters on September 25, 2026.

Both films are being helmed by notable directors and writers. Destin Daniel Cretton directs Spider-Man: Brand New Day, based on a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. In contrast, Anthony and Joe Russo are directing Avengers: Doomsday, from a script penned by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The Russo brothers are also co-producing the film through their production company, AGBO, in collaboration with Marvel Studios.

As fans eagerly await further announcements, the absence of trailers at the Super Bowl has certainly sparked discussions within the community about what to expect for these upcoming Marvel releases.
