Niemann and Westwood Dominate LIV Golf Singapore with Stellar Rounds

Defending champion Joaquin Niemann delivered a remarkable performance at the LIV Golf Singapore tournament, shooting a third-round score of 66 to tie for the lead on March 30, 2024. The Chilean golfer now sits at 10-under-par 203, sharing the top spot with England’s Lee Westwood. This puts them one stroke ahead of Bryson DeChambeau and Richard Lee of Canada, who are closely following in the tournament standings.

Westwood showcased his skills with a strong finish, making birdies on three of the final four holes to complete his round with a score of 68 at the challenging Sentosa Golf Club. He described the course as having a major championship feel, stating, “It’s very demanding. Even though the rough isn’t that thick, it asks you to hit a lot of fairways, and it’s difficult to score from the rough. You don’t have as much control on the golf ball.”

Niemann echoed Westwood’s assessment of the course’s difficulty. “I’ve been hitting the ball really good. I think that’s the key,” he noted. He emphasized the mental challenge of the course, saying, “It’s a really stressful golf course. There’s a lot of danger off the tee, a lot of water on second shots. One way or the other, I feel like I’ve been kind of stress-free after I hit the shot.”

DeChambeau, who had a standout second round with a score of 65, faced some struggles in the third round, finishing at one-over 72. Despite experiencing bogeys at holes 8, 10, and 12, he remained optimistic about his game. “I played really well. The greens got really slow, and I three-putted a few of them, which cost me some momentum,” he explained. “Other than that, I played great golf.”

Richard Lee, a wildcard entry in the LIV Golf tournament, tied with DeChambeau after finishing with a score of 69, while Jon Rahm from Spain shot an even-par 71, putting him three strokes off the lead. Meanwhile, Marc Leishman of Australia finished at six-under par with a round of 71, placing him alone in sixth.

In the team competition, the 4Aces are currently leading the standings. Team captain Dustin Johnson contributed a round of 68, bringing the team’s total to 16-under, which puts them two shots ahead of both Ripper GC and Legion XIII. Johnson’s performance also places him in a tie for seventh individually at 5-under.
