Max Scherzer Set for Crucial Game 4 Start in ALCS Tonight
UPDATE: The Toronto Blue Jays are counting on veteran pitcher Max Scherzer to deliver a game-changing performance as he takes the mound for Game 4 of the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners tonight at 8:00 PM ET. Scherzer, known for his fiery passion, expressed his excitement, stating, “I love it. This is what you play for. You want to have the ball in this situation. You want to be pitching in the postseason.”
The stakes are high for the Blue Jays, who have lost the first two games of the series at home and need a win to keep their championship hopes alive. The best-of-seven series now shifts to Seattle, where the Blue Jays must win at least two out of three games to force a return to Toronto.
Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, has not pitched since his last regular-season outing on September 24, 2025, against the Boston Red Sox. This will mark his 26th postseason start and 31st appearance. His recent performance has been a concern; Scherzer is currently on an 0-3 streak in his last eight postseason starts since the 2019 World Series.
Despite facing challenges this season, including neck pain that limited his play and a prior absence due to right thumb inflammation, Scherzer remains undeterred. “I don’t want to sit here and go backwards and blame injuries for any way I pitched,” he commented. “When I take the mound, I have the attitude that I’m going to win no matter what.”
His teammate, Chris Bassitt, who also joined the ALCS roster after missing the Division Series, supports Scherzer’s mindset. “I expect Max to be Max,” Bassitt said, emphasizing his confidence in Scherzer’s ability to execute at a high level.
This season, Scherzer posted a record of 5-5 with a 5.19 ERA over 17 starts, his 18th season in the majors. The Blue Jays’ playoff journey has been tumultuous, and players are feeling the pressure as they aim for a comeback. “We’re a great team,” Scherzer asserted. “We had so many comeback wins. Yes, we lost two games. We all understand what’s at stake.”
Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating Scherzer’s performance, as it could be pivotal for the Blue Jays’ chances of advancing in the playoff series. The energy is palpable as Toronto aims to turn the tide in Seattle tonight.
