Community Mourns Loss of Scot Johnson, 49, from Rochester

Scot Wade Johnson, a cherished member of the Rochester community, passed away on October 9, 2025, at the age of 49. Born on July 20, 1976, in Rochester, Minnesota, Scot was known for his warm heart, humor, and love for family and friends.

Scot graduated from John Marshall High School in 1995. His professional journey began at ShopKo, where he dedicated 19 years of service before transitioning to the Hampton Inn. From 2016 to 2024, he took pride in his role within the Environmental Services team at Mayo Clinic. His work ethic and commitment to his jobs left a lasting impression on colleagues and employers alike.

Outside of work, Scot found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid cook, often grilling for family and friends, and relished the thrill of driving nice cars and trucks. His love for the outdoors came alive through camping and fishing adventures. As a child, Scot enjoyed creating with Legos and Lincoln Logs, establishing a playful spirit that would endure throughout his life.

Scot’s personality was marked by a quick wit and a unique talent for selecting the perfect birthday card, always one that elicited laughter. Those who knew him remember his infectious laughter and the joy he brought to gatherings.

He leaves behind his loving mother, Beverly Johnson; sisters, Kara Johnson (married to Kent Johnson) and Marie Sams (married to Seth Sams); and his niece and nephew, Annika and August Sams. Scot is preceded in death by his father, Ervin Johnson, and brother, Curt Johnson.

Celebration of Life and Memorial Contributions

A celebration of Scot’s life is scheduled for October 31, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation one hour prior at Maxon Family Cremation & Life Celebrations. Family and friends are invited to honor his memory and share in the stories that defined his vibrant life.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to the Paws and Claws Humane Society of Rochester, Minnesota, reflecting Scot’s love for animals. Donations can be made online at https://www.pawsandclaws.org/wpweb/donate/ or sent by mail to 3224 19th Street NW, Rochester, MN 55901.
