Braxton Alpers Leads St. John to Victory with Six Touchdowns
In an exhilarating display of athleticism, St. John’s quarterback Braxton Alpers set a school record with 356 rushing yards and six touchdowns, propelling his team to a decisive 64-36 victory over Stafford in an 8-Man 2, District 7 clash on Friday. His performance not only highlighted his offensive capabilities but also showcased his defensive prowess with 15 tackles and a forced fumble, making him a crucial player in the Tigers’ success.
The game saw St. John dominate with a total of 447 rushing yards on 39 attempts. Alpers was supported by Easton Alpers, who added 54 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Jace Reyes, who contributed a 6-yard touchdown run along with nine tackles. Despite a strong effort from Stafford’s Dylan Brozek, who amassed 397 total yards and five touchdowns, the Tigers maintained control throughout the game.
In another thrilling matchup, Conway Springs edged out Ellinwood in a nail-biting 17-14 victory that extended into double overtime. Kicker Eli Benge nailed a 20-yard field goal in the second overtime, sealing the win in what was described as the longest game in Eagle football history. The game began with a surge from Ellinwood’s Cade Coleman, who scored a touchdown followed by a conversion, but Conway Springs equalized through Logan Osner, who tallied 175 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The back-and-forth continued, with both teams finding the end zone in the first overtime. Ultimately, Benge’s field goal clinched the victory, dropping Ellinwood’s record to 4-3 for the season, while Conway Springs improved to 2-5.
In another notable game, Little River secured a commanding 68-32 win against Central Plains. Quarterback Jaxson Konen showcased his passing skills, throwing for four touchdowns and 201 yards. The Redskins’ rushing attack was just as formidable, racking up 336 yards. Jaren Garrison was a standout performer, rushing for 164 yards and scoring three touchdowns, solidifying the Redskins’ position in the district with a 6-1 record.
The week also featured an impressive display from Victoria, who overwhelmed Macksville with a 64-6 victory. Mason Mauch and Weston Scherrer each scored three touchdowns as Victoria continued their unbeaten streak, improving to 7-0 for the season.
These games reflect the high level of competition and excitement in the current district matchups, as teams vie for playoff positions and strive to improve their standings.
