Sony’s New PS5 Controller Lacks Highly Requested Removable Battery
The latest model of Sony’s PlayStation 5 DualSense controller has been released, but it does not include the much-anticipated removable battery feature. Reports in the past month had suggested that this new version would allow users to easily replace the battery, addressing concerns about battery life as controllers age. However, early reviews and teardown videos reveal that while the battery has been modified, it is not designed for user replacement.
In a recent video, tech YouTuber Austin Evans provided a detailed breakdown of the new PlayStation 5 Pro model, which included insights into the DualSense controller. The teardown confirmed that Sony has indeed altered the internal battery, but the battery remains integrated and is not easily removable. This outcome has dashed hopes for those looking for a simple solution to battery deterioration over time.
Despite the lack of a swappable battery, there remains a possibility that Sony could implement this feature in future versions of the DualSense. Over the years, the company has continuously updated its controllers, introducing new colors and advanced models like the DualSense Edge. Should Sony aim to enhance the longevity of its higher-end controllers, a removable battery could be an attractive option for consumers.
As the current PS5 generation progresses, there is speculation that significant changes, such as a removable battery, may not be introduced until the release of the next console, the PS6. The absence of this feature in the current DualSense model suggests that players may need to wait for further advancements before seeing the changes they desire.
For now, the new DualSense model remains largely similar to its predecessor in terms of design and functionality. With the gaming community eager for innovations, the question of whether Sony will ultimately deliver on the hopes for a removable battery feature remains open. Players are encouraged to share their thoughts on this development in forums and discussions across platforms, including the ComicBook Forum.
In conclusion, while the latest DualSense controller showcases some internal changes, it has not met the expectations of many dedicated PlayStation fans. As the gaming landscape evolves, it remains to be seen how Sony will respond to user feedback regarding controller design and functionality in the future.
