Lorain County Invites Contractors for Community Development Projects
The Lorain County Board of Commissioners is actively seeking local contractors to participate in housing rehabilitation and neighborhood improvement projects aimed at supporting low- to moderate-income residents. An informational session is scheduled for October 29, 2023, at Lorain County Community College to guide interested contractors on how to qualify for work through the Community Development Block Grant Program.
These free sessions will provide essential information about the eligibility process for future projects funded by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and related programs. Contractors will learn how to apply for eligibility, understand required insurance and safety protocols, and discover available training and certification opportunities.
Marty Gallagher, a member of the Lorain County Board of Commissioners, emphasized the importance of local contractors in enhancing neighborhood safety and quality. “Our Housing and Community Development programs rely on local contractors to help improve the safety and quality of our neighborhoods,” Gallagher stated in a recent news release. He described the upcoming session as a valuable opportunity for small and mid-sized contractors to engage with public projects, understand the requirements, and potentially grow their businesses.
Contractors who wish to participate must meet specific prequalification standards. These include having adequate insurance coverage, obtaining necessary Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Lead Abatement certifications, and adhering to equal employment opportunity practices.
The informational session will be held at the Patsie C. and Dolores Jenee Campana Center, Room PC101, with two time slots available: the morning session from 07:30 to 08:30 and an evening session from 17:30 to 18:30. This structure aims to accommodate various schedules, ensuring broader participation.
This initiative is part of a larger effort by Lorain County to invest in local communities, enhancing infrastructure and living conditions for residents. By involving local contractors, the county aims to stimulate economic growth while addressing critical housing and neighborhood needs.
As the session approaches, contractors are encouraged to prepare by reviewing the necessary qualifications and considering how their participation can contribute to the ongoing development of Lorain County.
