Trump Called ‘Delusional’ by Rancher Over Beef Price Claims
UPDATE: Donald Trump faced sharp criticism from a prominent cattle rancher on Saturday, as accusations of “delusional” remarks regarding beef prices surfaced on MSNBC. The comments came after Trump claimed that his tariffs on imported cattle were the driving force behind the current market success for ranchers.
During a segment on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Craig Bieber, vice president of the South Dakota Cattleman’s Beef Association, responded to Trump’s post on Truth Social from earlier this week. In his post, Trump asserted, “The Cattle Ranchers, who I love, don’t understand that the only reason they are doing so well, for the first time in decades, is because I put Tariffs on cattle coming into the United States, including a 50% Tariff on Brazil.” Trump further stated that without his intervention, ranchers would still be struggling as they have for the past 20 years.
Bieber swiftly countered Trump’s claims during the live broadcast. “I think the president is delusional in the fact that, I mean, he had anything to do with these markets,” Bieber said, emphasizing that the market recovery was due to long-term industry challenges, including years of drought that eroded cattle populations.
“We were headed into these markets,” Bieber explained. “Almost everybody in the industry that was aware knew this was coming.” He insisted that tariffs played no role in the current market conditions, which he attributed to a natural recovery process.
As the beef industry continues to grapple with fluctuating prices and consumer demand, Bieber’s remarks highlight a growing rift between ranchers and the former president. This confrontation underscores the urgent need for accurate dialogue around agricultural policies as ranchers navigate complex market dynamics.
Authorities and industry experts are closely monitoring beef prices, which could significantly impact both ranchers and consumers. The fallout from Trump’s statements may influence future discussions on trade policies and agricultural tariffs.
Watch for further developments as this story unfolds, particularly reactions from key industry figures and the potential implications for U.S. agricultural policy.
