UPDATE: The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has confirmed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are NOT patrolling Muni vehicles, quelling fears among residents. The announcement, made on social media just hours ago, states, “We have received inquiries about the presence of ICE on Muni vehicles. There are no credible reports that ICE agents are boarding Muni buses.”

This confirmation comes amid heightened concerns following reports of ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arriving at Coast Guard Island in Alameda on October 23, 2025. Protests erupted as hundreds of demonstrators attempted to block access, voicing their opposition to federal deployments in San Francisco.

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie revealed that during a phone call with President Donald Trump on Wednesday night, the President agreed to call off a planned surge of federal agents in the city. Lurie, along with tech leaders such as Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, successfully urged Trump to grant San Francisco more time to address crime through local law enforcement instead of federal intervention.

Residents can report any ICE activity through the San Francisco Rapid Response Network, ensuring community members remain vigilant. The situation continues to develop as tensions rise in the Bay Area, with ongoing fears surrounding federal presence in local communities.

As concerns persist, the SFMTA’s statement aims to reassure the public about their safety while using public transportation. Authorities encourage engagement and communication with local law enforcement to maintain public trust and safety.
