Giants’ Cam Skattebo Undergoes Surgery, Out for 2025 Season
New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo underwent successful surgery on his dislocated right ankle on the evening of October 26, 2025, following his injury during a Week 8 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. The injury occurred in the second quarter when Skattebo was tackled by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun while attempting to catch a pass from rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
The situation escalated quickly as Skattebo’s foot became trapped during the tackle, resulting in an open dislocation. Emergency surgery was performed in a Philadelphia-area hospital due to the severity of the injury. Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that the procedure went well and noted, “He’s recovering. Obviously, he’ll be missed, but on the road to recovery… He’s got a road ahead of him.”
Skattebo’s absence represents a significant setback for the Giants, who had shown promise partly due to his impactful performances this season. The 23-year-old running back had recorded 410 rushing yards on 101 carries, scoring five touchdowns. In addition to his rushing contributions, Skattebo added 24 receptions for 207 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The injury prompted an emotional reaction from his teammates. Dart, visibly shaken, expressed his feelings, stating, “I was devastated. It’s my boy, man, so seeing him go down… that sucks. It’s the worst part of this game… It’s emotional.”
As Skattebo begins his recovery, the Giants are left to reassess their backfield strategy. They are expected to rely on a combination of Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary to fill the gap left by Skattebo’s absence. The team may also consider trading for additional rushing support ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.
Skattebo’s journey in the NFL began when he was selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft from Arizona State. His early performances had garnered attention, and he had quickly established himself as a key player for the Giants.
Further updates on Skattebo and the Giants’ season will be available as the team navigates this challenging period.
