Acclaimed Filmmakers Praise Osgood Perkins’ New Horror Film “Keeper”
Osgood Perkins, known for his work on Longlegs and The Monkey, is set to release his latest horror film, **Keeper**, which has already garnered enthusiastic endorsements from prominent figures in the film industry. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on **November 14, 2023**, and stars **Tatiana Maslany** and **Rossif Sutherland** as a couple whose anniversary trip takes a terrifying turn.
Prominent filmmakers have shared their thoughts on **Keeper** through a recently released trailer, highlighting the film’s chilling atmosphere and engaging storyline. **Fede Alvarez**, the director of the upcoming Alien: Romulus, described the film as “an experience of pure terror.” Meanwhile, **James Wan**, renowned for his work on the Insidious and Saw franchises, referred to it as “a terrifying descent into madness.”
Another notable endorsement comes from **Guillermo del Toro**, director of acclaimed films like Pan’s Labyrinth. He likened **Keeper** to “horror origami that skillfully folds into itself,” illustrating the film’s complex narrative structure. **Hideo Kojima**, the visionary behind Death Stranding, also praised Perkins, stating, “Perkins blends new fear and surprise. He is the wizard of horror.”
Further affirmations of Perkins’ talent come from **Damien Leone**, director of Terrifier, and **Bong Joon Ho**, known for Parasite and Snowpiercer. Leone emphasized that “Perkins is a formidable voice in horror,” while Bong Joon Ho remarked on Perkins’ natural ability to evoke discomfort that transforms into fear.
Maslany, reflecting on Perkins’ unique storytelling style, noted that his films often defy expectations. She stated, “The size of them is different, the tone is different, the story is very different. But there are themes that recur in terms of, like, inherited trauma and the unknowability of death, and facing death in incomprehensible ways.” This insight highlights Perkins’ thematic consistency across his diverse body of work.
The positive reception of **Keeper** builds on a similar trailer released last month, which also featured praise from del Toro, Wan, and Leone. As anticipation builds for the film’s release, it is clear that Perkins’ innovative approach to horror is generating significant excitement among audiences and critics alike.
As **Keeper** approaches its theatrical debut, horror enthusiasts can look forward to an intense cinematic experience that promises to challenge conventional narratives within the genre. In the meantime, viewers can explore a guide to other upcoming films and the best horror movies currently available.
