Alex Singleton Undergoes Surgery Following Testicular Cancer Diagnosis
Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton has successfully undergone surgery after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. The diagnosis followed a routine drug test conducted by the NFL on November 3, 2023, which revealed elevated levels of the hormone hCG in Singleton’s system.
After receiving the test results, Singleton sought further medical evaluation from a urologist. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), he disclosed that medical examinations indicated signs of a testicular tumor. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Singleton promptly alerted the Broncos, who arranged for follow-up appointments to confirm the diagnosis and schedule surgery.
Singleton underwent the operation on November 7, 2023, just one day after participating in the Broncos’ narrow victory against the Las Vegas Raiders, where the team won 10-7 on “Thursday Night Football.” In his social media post, he expressed gratitude for catching the cancer early, stating, “Thankfully, we believe the cancer was caught early with a great prognosis for me and my family.”
He remains optimistic about his recovery, saying, “While we are still awaiting some additional test results, I fully expect to return to the field in the coming weeks.” Singleton’s decision to share his diagnosis publicly stemmed from a desire to raise awareness about the importance of early detection.
He emphasized, “If it helps one person decide to pay closer attention to their body, then it is well worth it. Early detection and regular screenings save lives and can save loved ones from a lot of grief.” Singleton also highlighted his personal motivations for advocating awareness, mentioning his wife, Sam, and daughter, Tallyn, along with his extended family in California.
In addition to his family, Singleton expressed appreciation for the support he has received from the Broncos organization, his doctors, coaches, agent, and fans. “Can’t wait to get back on the field,” he added, demonstrating his determination to return to his sport.
This season, Singleton has been a key player for the Broncos, starting all ten games and recording a total of 89 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one pass deflection. The linebacker is in his seventh NFL season, with this being his fourth year with the Denver Broncos after previously playing three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
