A collaborative community initiative is set to provide a warm Thanksgiving meal to those in need in Chicago. Ignite-Futures with Promise and Rock of Our Salvation Church are partnering with renowned chef Ora Triest to host the annual dinner, aptly named “Home for the Holidays.” This event aims to serve the homeless community and ensure that many more individuals feel the spirit of the season.

The Thanksgiving dinner will take place on November 23, 2023, at 5628 West Washington Boulevard. It is scheduled to run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all, with meals provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Chef Ora, who has embraced this mission as part of her culinary career, expressed the significance of community support during the holiday season. “During the holidays, it’s important that we come together as a community to help those who are in need,” she stated. “I enjoy serving and sharing my love for cooking. This is a part of my mission as a chef and a Black woman from Chicago.”

Engaging the Community

Chef Ora Triest has a rich background in the culinary arts and is known for her passion for giving back to the community. Her involvement in “Home for the Holidays” reflects her commitment to using her skills to uplift others. The collaboration with Ignite-Futures with Promise and Rock of Our Salvation Church highlights the power of local organizations coming together to address food insecurity during the holiday period.

ABC7 Chicago featured Chef Ora in an interview where she elaborated on her efforts and encouraged others to participate in this communal mission. “I want to inspire others to join us in making a difference,” she added, underscoring the importance of collective action in supporting those less fortunate.

A Tradition of Generosity

This annual dinner not only provides a meal but also fosters a sense of belonging and support within the community. As Chicagoans gather at the event, they will have the opportunity to connect with one another, share experiences, and celebrate the holiday spirit together. The organizers anticipate an increase in attendance this year, reflecting the growing need for such initiatives.

In a city where food insecurity remains a pressing issue, events like “Home for the Holidays” serve as crucial lifelines for many families and individuals. By offering free meals and a warm atmosphere, the initiative aims to brighten the holiday season for those who may otherwise go without.

As Thanksgiving approaches, the community’s collective effort to provide support exemplifies the spirit of the holiday. With Chef Ora Triest leading the charge, the event promises to make a significant impact on the lives of those who attend.
