Downtown Sacramento Businesses Anticipate Visitor Surge This Week

A series of high-profile events at the Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento is set to attract a significant influx of visitors this week. The schedule includes high school basketball championships, concerts, and a game featuring the Sacramento Kings, all taking place through March 14, 2024. Local businesses are gearing up to capitalize on the anticipated surge in foot traffic.

Alan Jimenez, owner of Caféx, a Mexican-inspired coffee shop and juice bar, expressed optimism about the upcoming events. “We’re always excited to have people downtown and we’re thrilled to be part of something great down here,” he stated. Jimenez noted that while the café does not operate late into the evening, events help generate customer traffic from morning until late afternoon.

Local Businesses Prepare for Increased Demand

In the evening, other establishments also expect to benefit. Nicholas Forgac, a bartender at Fizz Champagne and Bubbles Bar, shared insights into the bar’s dynamic clientele during event nights. “When we have concerts that align with our champagne crowd, we definitely feel a boost in business,” he explained. While he acknowledged that children’s basketball events may not bring in the same crowd, he emphasized that concerts and Kings games typically result in busy pre- and post-game hours.

Jillian Beaver, representing Lucky Gold, noted the positive impact of events on her jewelry business. She mentioned that the influx of visitors often leads customers to seek out commemorative pieces. “I make sure we have additional staff, increased inventory, and extend our hours during these busy periods,” Beaver said.

The diversity of visitors also enhances the local atmosphere. “All walks of life are here. Everyone comes to DOCO, so there’s lots of diversity and interesting stories,” Beaver added. Forgac echoed this sentiment, stating, “You see and meet a lot of different people, and I think that’s my favorite part.”

After this week, the next major event at the Golden 1 Center is scheduled for March 27, 2024, when the March Madness women’s basketball tournament arrives in Sacramento. This continued influx of visitors is expected to provide further opportunities for local businesses to thrive.
