Rowan, a New York-based ear-piercing business, is set to open its 101st location at the Danbury Fair Mall this month, offering a unique and safe ear-piercing experience. Appointments are already being accepted for the new studio, which aims to create a memorable milestone for families.

A Focus on Safety and Celebration

Founded by Louisa Schneider in 2017, Rowan has built a reputation for combining medical safety with a celebratory atmosphere. The Danbury location will be the second in Connecticut, following the first studio opened in Westport. Schneider emphasized the importance of community, stating, “Danbury Fair is a vibrant community hub, and it felt like a natural fit for Rowan.”

Rowan’s studios stand out by employing licensed nurses for all ear-piercing services. These professionals ensure that each procedure adheres to the company’s rigorous safety standards. “Our goal is to make ear piercing feel like a milestone moment families will remember fondly for years,” Schneider explained.

Schneider’s journey began in North Carolina, where she grew up in a family of medical professionals. She initially worked in finance on Wall Street at Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan before pursuing her entrepreneurial dreams. Her experiences led her to establish Rowan after realizing there were no options that combined medical safety with a celebratory experience for ear piercing.

Expanding Presence Across the Nation

Since its inception, Rowan has expanded rapidly, now boasting 101 locations across 33 states. The company partnered with Target in 2019 to provide ear-piercing services nationwide but later decided to focus on independently expanding its brick-and-mortar studios. “In 2022, we made the strategic decision to exit Target to concentrate on our own growth,” Schneider noted.

The Danbury Fair Mall location is expected to draw significant interest, particularly as Rowan plans to offer special promotions for its opening weekend. The first 50 customers to get pierced will receive a complimentary Rowan tote bag, and a percentage of proceeds will benefit the nonprofit NextGenFace.

Rowan has made its mark by providing a calm and welcoming atmosphere within its studios. Upon arrival, customers can select hypoallergenic earrings and discuss piercing options with the nurse. The procedure involves careful sanitation and marking of the desired piercing location before the actual piercing takes place. Schneider stressed that aftercare is a crucial part of the experience, with nurses providing guidance on how to properly care for the new piercings.

“At its core, Rowan exists to transform a moment that’s often rushed or uncomfortable into one that feels safe, meaningful, and joyful,” Schneider said. The company’s commitment to safety and personalized care distinguishes it from traditional piercing studios.

The new studio will be situated on Level 2 of the Danbury Fair Mall, adjacent to Urban Outfitters. Mackenzie Fontaine, general manager of the mall, expressed enthusiasm about Rowan’s arrival, stating, “Their specialized approach and strong connection with families make them a meaningful addition to our center.”

As Rowan continues to expand, Schneider mentioned that the company is always evaluating opportunities for future locations, particularly in Connecticut. “It’s been incredibly exciting to see how strongly communities across the country are responding to a safer, more thoughtful piercing experience,” she concluded.
