Destiny 2 Expands Universe with New Star Wars-Inspired Characters
The upcoming expansion for Destiny 2, titled Renegades, is set to launch on December 2, 2023, and features a unique collaboration with the Star Wars universe. Instead of a straightforward crossover, the game’s developer, Bungie, has opted to weave a narrative that draws inspiration from the iconic franchise while maintaining its own distinct storyline and themes. This approach promises fans a fresh experience that merges the aesthetics and lore of both universes.
Praxic Order Takes Center Stage
At the heart of this expansion lies the Praxic Order, a faction referenced since the initial release of Destiny. The Order is now receiving significant attention as players confront a new adversary, the fallen guardian Dredgen Bael, voiced by Aleks Le, who channels a Kylo Ren-like presence. The introduction of the Praxic Order adds a layer of complexity, as it embodies the role of a regulatory body within the game’s universe.
In a recent behind-the-scenes featurette, the Destiny 2 development team describes the Praxic Order as functioning like an “internal affairs” unit for the Vanguard, which oversees the guardians. Their primary mission is to monitor those guardians who harness the power of darkness—an intriguing twist given the game’s ongoing theme of balancing light and dark forces. The character Aunor, representing the Praxic Order, is portrayed as a guardian enforcing these principles, further emphasizing the narrative’s depth.
Exploring Themes of Power and Morality
The introduction of the Praxic Order allows Destiny 2 to explore themes that resonate with Star Wars fans, particularly the moral dilemmas faced by characters navigating a world filled with conflicting ideologies. Aunor’s struggle to adapt to a changing landscape, where traditional views on power are challenged, mirrors the complexities often found in the Star Wars saga.
This clever integration of elements from both franchises not only enhances the storytelling but also invites players to reflect on the nature of power and its implications. As players engage with the new content in Renegades, they may find themselves drawn into a narrative that feels both familiar and innovative.
If the expansion successfully delivers on its promise to interrogate the shared elements of Destiny 2 and Star Wars, it could provide a rewarding experience for fans of both franchises. The anticipation surrounding the December 2 launch continues to build as players look forward to exploring this new chapter in the Destiny universe.
