Longborough Opera Festival Unveils Star-Studded 2026 Season

The Longborough Opera Festival has officially revealed its 2026 season lineup, featuring an array of acclaimed artists and productions. This year’s offerings include notable operas by Handel, Wagner, Verdi, and Humperdinck, showcasing a mix of seasoned performers and rising stars.

Handel’s “Orlando” Kicks Off the Season

Beginning on May 30, 2026, the festival will present Handel’s “Orlando,” featuring a talented cast that includes Beth Taylor, Anna Devin, Katie Bray, Kelli-Ann Masterson, and Andrew Foster-Williams. The production, conducted by Christopher Moulds, is directed by Sinéad O’Neill. Performances will take place until June 7, 2026, offering opera enthusiasts a chance to experience this celebrated work.

Wagner’s Timeless Classic and Verdi’s Thrilling Drama

Following “Orlando,” the festival will shift focus to Richard Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde.” This production, featuring Peter Wedd and Catharine Woodward, alongside Catherine Carby, Alastair Miles, Robert Hayward, and Peter Bronder, promises to deliver a powerful performance. Conducted by Anthony Negus and directed by Carmen Jakobi, it will run from June 20 to July 18, 2026.

Verdi’s “Macbeth” will follow, with Mark Stone taking the lead role. He will be joined by Viktoriia Balan, Jung Soo Yun, and John Molloy. The production is set to be conducted by Nil Venditti and directed by Karolina Sofulak, with performances scheduled from July 1 to July 16, 2026.

Humperdinck’s Enchanting Tale and Additional Highlights

The festival will also present Humperdinck’s beloved opera “Hansel and Gretel.” This production features Joanna Harries, Rosalind Dobson, Darren Jeffery, Lee Bisset, and Kelli Ann-Masterson. Conducted by Karen Kamensek and directed by Lucy Bailey, the performances will take place from July 30 to August 8, 2026.

In addition, Anthony Negus will conduct a performance of the “Wesendonck Lieder” with soprano Emma Bell on March 5, 2026, providing an intimate evening of music.
