Passionate Collector Completes Quest for All 1,025 Pokémon Cards
A dedicated Pokémon collector has successfully gathered all 1,025 Pokémon cards, showcasing not only the joy of collecting but also a structured approach to the hobby. This journey, initiated on Pokémon Day last year, involved meticulous planning and organization, with the collector utilizing two large binders to house the extensive collection.
The collector established specific rules to enhance the experience. For instance, they decided not to purchase individual cards until completing 75% of the collection through booster packs. This method, while potentially costly, ensured that the process remained enjoyable rather than overwhelming. They strategically added packs to their shopping cart whenever they found them at reasonable prices, creating a relaxed collecting atmosphere.
One of the key components of this endeavor was the choice of binders. The collector opted for the Vault X 12 XL binder, which is known for its durability and capacity to hold 624 cards per binder. They acquired two of these binders to accommodate the entire collection, with extra space for duplicates. This decision reflects the collector’s commitment to maintaining the cards in excellent condition.
In terms of protection, the collector utilized Ultra Pro sleeves for the majority of cards, especially since they do not play with them. For those cards that would see action, they preferred Dragon Shield sleeves, which offer enhanced durability. As duplicates accumulated, the collector found that additional storage solutions, such as card boxes and top loaders, became essential for organization and protection.
The process of collecting also involved a creative aspect. The collector color-coded Pokémon by energy type and used sharpies to label each card’s position in the binder. This not only aided in maintaining order but also made it easier to track which Pokémon were still needed to complete the collection.
To assist others looking to embark on a similar journey, the collector shared several tips:
Essential Tips for New Pokémon Collectors
1. **Organize Your Binder**: Clearly marking out the binder with numbers and names will streamline the process of knowing which Pokémon are missing and where each belongs.
2. **Diversify Your Purchases**: By shopping across different sets and eras, collectors can minimize duplicates and find rarer cards more easily.
3. **Track Your Progress**: Utilizing an app like Dex TCG or a simple spreadsheet can significantly reduce the workload later on, especially when transitioning to purchasing individual cards.
As this collector’s journey illustrates, Pokémon card collecting can be a fulfilling hobby that combines strategy, creativity, and a sense of community. While the financial investment may be considerable, it is clear that the rewards, both tangible and intangible, make the effort worthwhile for dedicated fans.
