The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Orlando unveiled groundbreaking products that prioritize wellness, including a toilet accessory designed to monitor gut health. These innovations reflect a growing trend in home design focused on health, sustainability, and smart technology. According to Bill Darcy, CEO of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, the integration of artificial intelligence and smart technology in home appliances is not a passing trend. “It’s going to be around for a while,” he stated.

The show featured a range of products aimed at enhancing everyday living. Kohler introduced its new wellness division, Kohler Health, showcasing devices such as infrared saunas, cold plunge tubs, and smart toilets. A standout product is the Dekoda, which attaches to the side of a toilet bowl and uses light-based sensors to monitor hydration and gut health. This device tests pH levels and alerts users to potential health issues, including dehydration and urinary tract infections. The cost of the Dekoda is under $1,000.

Darcy highlighted the potential of such technology, saying it could serve as an early warning system for health issues. He plans to purchase two Dekoda units for his home, emphasizing the value of having early indications of health changes. “Why not have early indications of something going wrong that you could say it’s not too late?” he remarked.

New Kitchen Technologies Focus on Health and Efficiency

The trend toward health-focused appliances extended beyond bathrooms. Kitchen technologies unveiled at the show included innovations designed to reduce noise and eliminate odors. InSinkErator introduced its latest line of garbage disposals featuring a patented LEDefense system, which utilizes antimicrobial light to kill bacteria and prevent mold growth in drains. This system operates continuously, targeting odor-causing microorganisms and ensuring cleanliness.

Senior Products Manager Carly Kelly expressed excitement about the new product’s launch, noting the positive response from attendees. “It’s been a few years behind the scenes developing this product, so it’s been a very exciting day to finally launch,” she said.

In addition to InSinkErator’s innovations, JennAir revealed its NextGen Downdraft induction cooktop. This model reduces noise and odors, featuring a downdraft system that operates quietly while providing effective ventilation. Priced at $5,000 for a 30-inch model, this cooktop positions itself as a significant improvement over traditional range hoods.

Another notable introduction came from Kenmore, which showcased a dishwasher that incorporates smart technology to optimize water and energy usage. Its innovative EasyReach bottom rack conveniently rises to waist level, simplifying loading and unloading. This model is priced at $1,499 and represents a shift toward practical technology in household appliances.

Start-ups Combine AI with Wellness Initiatives

Tech start-ups also made a strong showing, presenting products that combine artificial intelligence with health and wellness features. One such company, ClouzerAI, introduced a platform that connects various home systems, including HVAC, smart lighting, and air purifiers, to enhance energy efficiency and air quality. Their unique sleep sensor, placed under the mattress, monitors sleep quality and adjusts home systems accordingly.

Alan Margolis, associated with Clouds Inc., explained the technology’s benefits: “It senses the quality of your sleep, so the REM, all of that, along with your heart rate, and then it adjusts everything automatically.” This continuous monitoring allows for enhanced living conditions without the need for expensive mattresses.

As the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show demonstrated, the focus on wellness in home design is rapidly evolving. With products that not only aim to improve comfort but also monitor health, the future of household appliances appears to be intertwined with technology that prioritizes user well-being.
