NorthBay Health Launches New Clinic in Rio Vista to Enhance Care
NorthBay Health celebrated the grand opening of its new Urgent Care and Primary Care clinic in Rio Vista on March 15, 2024. The event drew community members and public officials, coinciding with the centennial anniversary of the Rio Vista Fire Department. This new facility is part of NorthBay’s commitment to expanding healthcare access in the region.
During the opening, NorthBay President and CEO Mark Behl expressed his enthusiasm for the location, stating, “Not too long ago, I was driving through Rio Vista looking for a perfect clinic location. As I came down the road, I noticed this building. And I remember thinking, ‘This is it.’” Behl emphasized the importance of accessibility, saying, “Ultimately, today is about access and showing up for the community of Rio Vista in a very real, tangible way.”
The Rio Vista clinic is the sixth urgent care facility established by NorthBay Health, following the opening of clinics in Winters in June 2023. This initiative is part of a broader $250 million investment aimed at enhancing ambulatory services in Solano, Napa, and Yolo counties. The goal is to address the region’s growing shortage of medical resources.
Rio Vista Mayor Edwin Okamura expressed gratitude for NorthBay’s efforts. “We’re deeply grateful to NorthBay Health for recognizing the need for accessible, high-quality healthcare in rural communities like ours,” he stated. Okamura noted that the clinic would help ensure that geography does not hinder residents from receiving the care they need.
The successful opening of the clinic was made possible through collaboration with local leaders, the Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce, and elected officials. NorthBay officials highlighted the importance of understanding the evolving health needs of residents and the aim of bringing reliable care closer to home.
The establishment of the Rio Vista clinic also involved the support of California Forever, a group of developers planning to annex land for development and bring shipbuilding to the Collinsville area. NorthBay attributed the opening to the partnership with California Forever, which has been pivotal in advancing the health system’s network.
Initially, NorthBay and California Forever announced that the Rio Vista clinic would mark the beginning of their strategic partnership. Under this agreement, California Forever was to purchase and renovate the clinic building and lease it long-term to NorthBay. However, a year later, NorthBay sought approval from the Solano County Board of Supervisors to use $20 million in tax-exempt bonds through the California Municipal Finance Authority (CMFA) to fund the project. This funding will allow NorthBay to buy the property from California Forever and cover renovation expenses in Rio Vista, effectively concluding their partnership.
The new clinic will offer same-day appointments and walk-in care, aiming to provide immediate medical attention for patients in Rio Vista and reduce unnecessary visits to emergency rooms. By expanding its urgent care network, NorthBay Health seeks to enhance access to care and relieve pressure on the broader healthcare system, ultimately improving health outcomes for the community.
