Brandi Carlile captivated fans at the sold-out Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, on February 20, 2025, during her first-ever arena tour. The singer-songwriter and activist, known for her heartfelt music and dedication to social causes, used the occasion to highlight pressing issues facing the community. She announced that her upcoming show in Minneapolis would be livestreamed to benefit The Advocates for Human Rights, a clear indication of her commitment to advocacy.

During her performance, Carlile revealed that her Looking Out Foundation had raised $25,000 to support legal aid for individuals impacted by immigration enforcement in Minnesota. This initiative followed a tragic incident in which Alex Pretti and Renee Good were fatally shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement last month. Carlile encouraged attendees to contribute further, reinforcing her belief in music as a vehicle for change.

The arena buzzed with energy as she engaged fans with interactive opportunities, such as writing postcards labeled #Bramily (Brandi Family), intended to offer encouragement to fellow concertgoers. “The plight of displaced people, people who have left their homes in search of safety, of a better life, is the defining test of our humanity in this time and age,” Carlile stated, prompting an enthusiastic response from the audience.

A Show of Sound and Vision

Carlile’s tour commenced shortly after her stirring rendition of “America the Beautiful” at the Super Bowl, elevating her profile on a national stage. The performance at Allstate Arena featured a high-definition setup, complete with elaborate lighting and fog effects, and included seven accompanying musicians, among them her longtime collaborators, Phil and Tim Hanseroth, and the Milwaukee-based duo, SistaStrings.

Reflecting on her rise to fame, Carlile humorously remarked on the scale of the production, contrasting it with her previous performances in smaller venues. Over the years, she has amassed an impressive collection of accolades, including 11 Grammy Awards, two Emmys, and an Oscar nomination. Her collaborations with legends like Elton John and her role in revitalizing Joni Mitchell’s career have cemented her status as an influential figure in music.

As she opened the concert with “Returning to Myself,” from her latest album, Carlile set the stage for a profound exploration of identity and self-reflection. The performance featured striking visuals, including a giant orange orb that evoked the image of a womb, symbolizing new beginnings. The transition into “Human” seamlessly illustrated her contemplation of existence and purpose.

Carlile’s music resonates deeply with her audience, a connection fostered over nearly two decades since her songs first featured on television shows like “Grey’s Anatomy.” With her latest album, released in October 2024, she returns to her roots, addressing themes of midlife and personal growth. The presence of her family at the concert added a personal touch, as she performed nearly every track from the album, including “A War With Time” and “No One Knows Us.”

A Celebration of Music and Togetherness

The concert also included performances of tracks from her collaborative album with Elton John, titled “Who Believes in Angels?” Carlile showcased her versatility with covers such as Alanis Morissette’s “Uninvited” and Linda Ronstadt’s “Long Long Time,” delivering each rendition with her signature emotional depth and storytelling prowess.

As the concert neared its conclusion, Carlile joined forces with openers The Head and the Heart for a rousing encore, covering Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida.” The atmosphere in the arena was electric, with fans united in celebration of life and music, a testament to Carlile’s ability to foster community through her art.

Following the concert, Carlile’s event, “Be A Human: A Concert For Minneapolis,” is set to air on February 21, 2025, at 19:00 on VEEPS, providing a further platform for her message of compassion and support for those in need. Brandi Carlile’s tour represents not only a milestone in her career but also an affirmation of her enduring connection to her audience and the world around her.
