JetBlue Launches First Class Service on Domestic Routes by 2026

JetBlue Airways is set to introduce its first class service, known as “Mini Mint” or “Junior Mint,” on domestic routes, marking a significant shift in its cabin offerings. This new premium cabin will feature recliner-style seats that aim to enhance the travel experience between economy seating and the existing Mint business class available on select routes. The rollout of this new service is expected to begin in 2026.

The airline plans to install the “Mini Mint” service on its Airbus A220s, A320s, and A321s. According to aviation industry expert JonNYC, certification for these domestic first-class seats is currently in progress, as JetBlue seeks approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to install these new configurations. The seats selected for the “Mini Mint” cabin are the Collins Aerospace MiQ model, which is already in use by American Airlines for its domestic first-class service.

Rollout Timeline and Aircraft Modifications

The installation of the new first-class service will begin with a prototype seat expected to be fitted into the first aircraft in June 2026. Following this, JetBlue plans to start modifications on its A320 fleet in August 2026, aiming to complete approximately 20 aircraft per month. However, as noted by View From The Wing, this extensive update could take years to fully implement, with the completion of the non-Mint Airbus fleet likely extending into 2027 or later.

Once the modifications are complete, the seating arrangements on these aircraft will undergo changes. For instance, the Airbus A220s, which currently accommodate 140 seats, will increase to 143 seats, including eight first-class seats and 135 economy-class seats. The A320s will retain their 162 seats but will introduce 12 first-class seats alongside 150 economy-class seats. The A321ceos and A321neos, which currently have 200 seats, will be adjusted to feature 198 seats in the A321ceos with 12 first-class seats, while the A321neos will maintain 200 seats, comprised of 12 first-class and 188 economy-class seats.

Future of JetBlue’s Cabin Offerings

JetBlue’s strategy involves reconfiguring its older aircraft first before moving on to newer models. Specific amenities and services that will accompany the new premium cabin have yet to be disclosed.
