Panthers Celebrate Brad Marchand’s 1,000th Point with Heartfelt Tribute

Brad Marchand reached a significant milestone in his career, achieving his 1,000th point in the NHL. The Florida Panthers honored the accomplished forward with a pregame ceremony on March 15, 2025, before their match against the Montreal Canadiens, a fitting rival for Marchand throughout his tenure with the Boston Bruins.

Marchand’s journey to this milestone began with his first NHL point, which he scored just 26 seconds into his debut game with the Boston Bruins. However, his initial success was followed by a challenging period where he went scoreless for 21 consecutive games. Reflecting on this experience, Marchand said, “After the first, I’m like, ‘Oh, this, it’s not too hard.’ But I had a pretty rude awakening after that.” These struggles have shaped his perspective on the game and contributed to his resilience over a 17-year career.

The Panthers, who acquired Marchand in a trade during the previous season, allowed him and his family to select the date for the tribute. The ceremony included the presentation of flowers to his wife and mother, gold mini-sticks for his three children, and a Tiffany crystal from the NHL. Additionally, Panthers hockey operations president and general manager Bill Zito presented Marchand with a commemorative gold stick and plaque.

The event was further enhanced by video tributes from several NHL coaches and players, including Sidney Crosby and former Bruins teammate Zdeno Chara, who expressed his pride in Marchand’s achievements. “Super proud of you,” Chara stated in his video message. Surrounded by family, Marchand expressed gratitude for the moment, saying, “These are moments throughout your career that don’t happen often. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate things that I definitely never thought would ever become possible.”

Reaching 1,000 points is a testament to Marchand’s longevity and consistency. He achieved 100 points in a single season just once, but he has maintained an impressive point-per-game pace throughout his career. “It’s just such a large milestone to hit,” he remarked. “Your dream is to play a game in the NHL. I never really thought about what it takes to get to this point.”

The ceremony coincided with a game against the Canadiens, a team that has long been a rival for Marchand. The presence of Martin St. Louis, a celebrated player during Marchand’s youth and a current coach for Montreal, added a layer of significance to the event. “It’s always a special team to play,” Marchand noted. “And it’s pretty cool to have Marty on the bench, being my favorite player growing up.”

Marchand accumulated the first 976 points of his career with the Bruins before joining the Panthers, a move that surprised many given the intense rivalry between the two teams. Last season, the Panthers captured their second consecutive Stanley Cup, marking the second championship of Marchand’s career as well.

Reflecting on the past year, Marchand described it as a remarkable journey filled with ups and downs. “It was a hell of a year. A lot of ups and downs, but if I could categorize it, I’m just very grateful for all of it,” he stated.
