Pittsburg High’s RJ Mosley Named Contra Costa County Player of the Year

PITTSBURG — RJ Mosley has been recognized as the Contra Costa County Player of the Year by the Bay Area News Group, highlighting an impressive season that concluded with outstanding performances on the football field. The Pittsburg High School wide receiver, standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 185 pounds, showcased remarkable athleticism throughout the season, finishing with an impressive total of 84 receptions and leading the section with 1,302 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.

Mosley’s performance not only highlighted his exceptional receiving skills but also his commitment to teamwork. Known for his one-handed catches that have become a staple in highlight reels, it is his dedication to blocking and playing through contact that truly defines his contributions. “Whenever the Pirates needed a big third-down conversion or a score, Mosley delivered time and time again,” said Charlie Ramirez, head coach of Pittsburg High.

Record-Setting Senior Season

The senior wide receiver’s achievements this season culminated in leading the Pirates to a North Coast Section Division I championship and a spot in the NorCal Division I-A title game. Mosley’s stellar performance throughout the year earned him the title of Bay Valley Athletic League Player of the Year, further solidifying his status as one of the top players in Northern California.

“It’s a blessing,” Mosley remarked upon receiving the award. “I think it just speaks volumes to our work ethic and making sure we get better every year. I focused on things that I was not at and made them my strengths. Every year I just wanted to become a more versatile player, and that was always my biggest goal.”

His three years on the varsity team have established him as one of the most electrifying receivers in the area. Mosley’s ability to make spectacular catches, including a memorable one-handed touchdown against Central East in the NorCal Division I-A title game, has captivated fans and showcased his potential.

Legacy and Future Prospects

Mosley leaves behind a legacy at Pittsburg High as one of the most talented athletes to emerge from its storied program. East Contra Costa County has been a breeding ground for many NFL players, and there is a strong belief within the Pittsburg program that he could be the next to represent the Bay Valley Athletic League on professional Sundays.

“His ability to dominate every game, especially the big ones, and still absorb double- and triple-teams is significant,” Ramirez noted. He compared Mosley to NFL stars such as Joe Mixon, Najee Harris, and Ronnie Rivers, highlighting the potential he sees in Mosley. “RJ has NFL potential. If he continues to work hard and hone his skills, he is likely to play at the professional level.”

As he prepares to take his talents to the University of Arizona, Mosley’s achievements serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes in the region.
