Times Square Plans Patriotic Ball Drop for America’s 250th Celebration

Times Square is set to usher in 2026 with a distinctive patriotic flair, featuring its renowned Ball Drop in red, white, and blue. In a historic first for the event, a second Ball Drop is scheduled for July 3, 2026, to commemorate America’s 250th birthday. This occasion marks the first time in 120 years that the Ball will drop twice in the same year, with the only exceptions occurring during wartime blackouts in 1942 and 1943.

As part of the July celebration, attendees can look forward to a “dynamic pyro finale,” choreographed to the beloved song “America the Beautiful.” The plans were detailed by Rosie Rios, Chair of America250, who described the initiative as aspiring to create “the most inspirational celebration this country and maybe the world has ever seen,” according to a report by ABC7NY.

At midnight on New Year’s Eve, the festivities will kick off with the launch of “America Gives,” a national service initiative aimed at encouraging volunteer hours across the United States. Additionally, America250 will take part in the New Year’s Day Rose Parade in Pasadena, showcasing a float themed “Soaring Onward Together for 250 Years.” This float will serve as a visual representation of unity and resilience, reflecting the spirit of the upcoming anniversary.
