Tributes Pour in for Eugene Lyons, Beloved Veteran and Family Man
Eugene Lyons, a dedicated veteran and cherished family member, passed away on December 19, 2025, after a prolonged battle with dementia. He was 101 years old at the time of his death, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. Eugene’s passing marks the end of a life filled with remarkable experiences and deep family connections.
Born on November 1, 1924, in Long Branch, New Jersey, Eugene was the son of Matilda Clark Lyons and McKinley Lyons. He fondly remembered his childhood in the area, where he earned the nickname “Husky” among his friends in Asbury Park. Eugene’s journey led him to marry Laura Grace Green on July 15, 1957, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Together, they built a family that eventually settled in Vacaville, California.
Eugene dedicated over two decades to the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 24 years of service. Following his military career, he worked for 16 years at the U.S. Post Office, where he continued to serve his community. His commitment to duty and family shaped his life, and he is remembered as a steadfast figure by those who knew him.
The couple welcomed three children: daughter Laura Jean Lyons Bogardus, son Eugene Lyons Jr., and youngest son Golvin Scott Lyons. Eugene is also survived by his grandchildren—Jessica Bogardus, Keylan Scott Lyons, Keisha Denise Mask, Kasaundra Grace Stampler, Korie Jean Lyons, Karlee Lynn Lyons, Breanna Grace Lyons, and Gianna Lorainne Hill—as well as numerous great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family reflects on his life with gratitude and love, remembering the lessons he imparted and the joy he brought to their lives.
Memorial Services and Final Farewell
Visitation services for Eugene Lyons will be held on January 12, 2026, from 18:00 to 20:30 at McCune Garden Chapel, located at 212 Main Street, Vacaville, CA 95688. Family and friends are encouraged to gather and celebrate his life during this time.
Funeral services will take place on January 13, 2026, at 09:30 at First Baptist Church, situated at 1127 Davis Street, Vacaville, CA 95687. Following the church service, military burial services are scheduled for 13:15 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, located at 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620.
In honor of Eugene, the family invites those who wish to pay tribute to consider planting a living memorial or sending flowers in his memory. His enduring spirit will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him, as he now dances before the Lord alongside his late wife, Laura Grace, who passed away in 2015.
Eugene Lyons’ life serves as a testament to love, resilience, and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on his family and community.
